Missouri law requires motor vehicles to pass a vehicle safety inspection performed by an Missouri authorized vehicle inspection station. The renewal notice you receive from the Department of Revenue will tell you if your vehicle needs to present a current safety inspection certificate at the time of renewal.

Car safety inspections are required because they're an integral component in the promotion of better highway and road safety, which helps reduce the number of severe and fatal car crashes.  Mobile Techs is a state safety inspections site in Sunset Hills, MO.  Many states, including Missouri, require state safety inspections. Emissions inspection may also be required as part of the vehicle inspection. If you are unsure of the inspection and/or emission requirements for St. Louis, MO contact your state and/or local agency.

Vehicle inspections are done periodically at official inspection stations by qualified mechanics in St Louis Mo. In order to be qualified to perform vehicle inspections, the qualified mechanics must know the state laws and requirements and also pass a practical exam where they work on actual cars. When done correctly, safety inspections can prevent vehicle failure on the roadways.

The following are the major components that may be checked during a vehicle inspection:

Tire tread – Tire tread is measured to ensure that an adequate amount of tread remains on the tire. A certain amount of tire tread is required by law. Any tire that does have the minimum amount of tread on it must be replaced before the vehicle will pass inspection.

Brakes components – The braking system components are inspected. The amount of remaining brake pads is measured to ensure that an adequate amount of material remains on the brake pad. A certain amount of brake material is required by law. Any brake pad that does have the minimum amount of material on it must be replaced before the vehicle will pass inspection. One or both brakes on the front of the vehicle and rear of the vehicle are measured and inspected.

Lighting and electrical – All lights and turn indicators are turned on to ensure that they function properly.

Body of vehicle – The body panels of the vehicle are inspected by a qualified mechanic to ensure that they are safe, free from sharp edges, free from holes in the body panels, and any other blemishes that can cause a safety hazard.

Safety glass – All of the glass on your vehicle will be inspected to make sure there are no cracks in the line of vision. The mechanic will also ensure that all of the glass on the vehicle is safety glass that conforms to state safety regulations.

Does My Vehicle Need a Test?

The Gateway Vehicle Inspection Program will emissions test even model year vehicles during even calendar years and odd model year vehicles during odd calendar years. An emissions test is also required any time an eligible vehicle undergoes a title change. At the time of the title transfer, the seller is required to provide the purchaser with a valid emissions inspection compliance certificate or compliance waiver. The Missouri Department of Revenue will continue to mail vehicle registration papers 60 days prior to vehicle plate expiration to notify motorists when to have an emissions test and safety inspection performed.
